New Single-Serve Coffee Brewer Bruvi Wins Dual Recognition For Its Exceptional Design
Tokyo-Based Airline Design Recognized for Standout Product Design
Bruvi, the new single-serve coffee brewer that has been wowing users with remarkably tastier coffee since launching in November 2022, and Airline, the Tokyo-based design agency responsible for the brewers’ unique design, have been honored with two prestigious awards: 2022 Good Design® Award in the Household category and Silver IDA Product Design of the Year Award in the Design For Society / Design for Sustainability category,
In 2018, Bruvi founders Mel Elias and Sung Oh approached Airline with a vision to create a single-serve coffee system that actually made great tasting coffee and was environmentally friendly, plus it had to look great in any American kitchen. Bruvi had the technology and coffee science but needed a partner like Airline to realize their product vision. With their expertise, Airline helped bring the Bruvi BV-01 brewer to life over the course of three years. The result is a coffee brewer that blends traditional craftsmanship with modern design and an attention to detail that other pod-based systems lack.
“Paul and the Airline team were with us every step of the way, not just as a design vendor but as a partner, really challenging and mentoring us on the design process and pushing us on our overall vision. We’re thrilled to see their work recognized with these incredible awards”, said Elias.
The brewer design is intended to sit comfortably in any kitchen, traditional or modern. Airline designed the iconic form of the brewer, with natural accented CMF and a touch screen user experience which presents powerful options without complicated nested navigation. Airline also oversaw the design of the 99% plastic-free brewer packaging experience that incorporates a reusable fabric bag that cleverly facilitates the lifting of the brewer from the box to the kitchen counter.
Airline Founder and Chief Designer, Paul Pugh, called the Bruvi project one of the highlights of his 30-year plus career. He praised the founders’ coffee expertise and commitment to sustainability, saying “it was a thrill to work with such knowledgeable clients, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the product selling and receiving such positive reviews from reviewers and customers.”
According to a recent research study reported by the Washington Post, pod-based coffee is one of the most environmentally friendly methods to consume coffee because it is more energy-efficient and produces less coffee and water waste. Bruvi extends those advantages with proprietary B-Pods, which are infused with a bio-enzyme that allows them to break down in landfills much faster than untreated plastic, without leaving microplastics behind, making Bruvi a sustainable and practical choice for anyone who wants delicious coffee at home.
Bruvi has set a new standard for single-serve coffee by offering ethically-sourced premium coffee and proprietary brewing technology that can make seven different beverages with exceptional precision, hygiene and efficiency. Bruvi’s commitment to coffee excellence, sustainability innovation and recognized design leadership is a big win for coffee lovers.
